Dakota Central Communications was formed in 1951 as Dakota Central Rural Telephone Cooperative Association. Central Dakota TV was formed in 1990. In June of 1996 a new subsidiary was formed, Dakota Central Telecom I, Inc., with the purchase of four new exchanges from US West. In 1999, Dakota Central formed a new subsidiary company called Daktel Communications to expand services to the Jamestown area.
