Co-op Month

Following are some ideas of various activities and events that can be organized and implemented by individual cooperatives to promote Co-op Month utilizing the new Co-op Month theme:

"Cooperatives Connecting Communities"

Cooperatives Connecting Communities Breakfast-Host a breakfast for local government and business leaders from your community, Invite a keynote speaker to talk about cooperatives and plan the menu around cooperative-produced products.

 After-Hours Open House-Host an open house for local government, business leaders, and other cooperatives in your community. Provide food and beverages along with special entertainment and/or presentation.

Open House for Members-Host an open house for your members in appreciation of their commitment and patronage. Provide cookies, coffee, cider, etc.

Cooperative Fair-Organize a “Cooperatives Connecting Communities” fair with booths and exhibits from area cooperatives. Visit with local schools to organize a cooperative fair by offering educational exhibits and activities.

Public Exhibit-Organize an exhibit at a local mall or shopping center. Include cooperative-produced products and services from your cooperative and cooperatives throughout your community and the state.

Trivia Contest-Conduct the statewide trivia contest by offering the trivia brochure to your members. You could also develop your own trivia contest about your cooperative and hold weekly or daily prize drawings.

Adopt-a-Classroom-Host a classroom fieldtrip to your cooperative, or bring your cooperative to the classroom. Contact local schools informing them of this educational event and opportunity.

Library Display-Ask your local public and/or school libraries about organizing an exhibit during October, Co-op Month. You could offer to arrange for a speaker or set up a lecture series about cooperatives/

Food Drive-Organize a food or coat drive for the less fortunate people in your area throughout the month of October. Challenge other cooperatives in your region to contribute or match donations.

Promotional Materials and Media Placement-Hang posters in your lobby and place newspaper and radio ads at your local media outlets. You may consider teaming up with other local cooperatives to purchase a full-page ad in your local newspaper promoting the cooperative spirit and each individual cooperative in the area.
