IT Advisory Group

Overview

Vice President Jensen appointed a committee in 2001 to advise the NDSU Ag Cabinet on information technology (IT) issues. The decision to establish the Agriculture Information Technology Advisory Group (AITAG) was based in part on an IT vision that had previously been developed.  The key components of the vision are

bulletestablish an IT advisory group representing users, technicians and administration from NDSU Agriculture to make recommendations on IT issues,
bulletdefine a baseline of technology that will be supported by NDSU Agriculture,
bulletdevelop closer collaboration between centralized IT support staff and individuals who provide IT support on an informal basis to their department or unit, and
bulletexpand IT training for agriculture faculty and staff.

Current members of the AITAG are Andrew Thostenson (co-chair), Randy Mehlhoff (co-chair), John Enz, Jim Hammond, Shelly Swandal, Lori Lymburner, Patty Flaagan, Margaret Tweten, Tim Becker, Gordon Bradbury, David Saxowsky, and Rosi Kloberdanz.

The committee has been meeting monthly.

An early discussion topic for AITAG was to define a baseline for IT support by identifying IT software and hardware that will meet 80% of the IT needs of NDSU Agriculture, but with the flexibility for individuals and departments to acquire, install, and maintain IT equipment and software needed to meet unique needs.

Now that the initial baseline has been developed, the committee plans to address the issue of NDSU agriculture maintaining an effective web presence.

Next meeting of the AITAG will be Tuesday, July 22, 2003.  The group will continue to review the current NDSU web policies (including style requirements and suggestions) and discuss how NDSU ag aligns with these expectations.
