A degree in Horticulture can lead to careers in many different areas due to the diversity of this science and art, so you are always doing something interesting!
Basic classes teach you about plants and their environment. You learn about:
• insects and how they affect plants, both beneficial and harmful
• plant diversity and interaction with the environment
• diseases that infect plants
• the soil in which plants grow and the significance of site variation.
Others include:
• how to manage a business
• how to effectively communicate with people.
You then decide on your speciality area and concentrate on the specifics!
You can choose the big picture - like managing an urban forest or landscaping parks or perhaps you are more interested in the intricate details such as the propagation of plants and tissue culture or maybe somewhere in between!
