NDSU Corn Breeding Releases

NDSU has released 12 early maturing products in the past six years. We have received over 100 requests to use these products as hybrid parents and for use as source of earliness, drought tolerance, fast dry down, grain quality, and unique genetic diversity not available elsewhere. For more information, access the following:

http://www.ag.ndsu.nodak.edu/plantsci/breeding/corn.htm

NDSU corn breeding program has 80 years of corn breeding research (testing since 1892). It is the most northern corn breeding program in North America. Most hybrids available are not locally bred. As a consequence, hybrids are late maturing with poor quality during most seasons. One of the major concerns is the lack of early maturing industry testers and the lack of intellectual property access to improve them under ND conditions.

NDSU corn breeding objectives are to mainly to adapt exotic elite genetically broad-based populations, improved adapted germplasm, develop unique inbred lines, populations, and NDSU x industry early maturing hybrids, and educate/train applied plant breeders; integrating pre-breeding with cultivar development in early-maturing maize.
