Rather than solve the quadratic formula using

we can just look up 0.1396 in Table 2. The recombination faction is 24.5%. We can find the s.e.() from tables by Immer.

For the coupling data we solve for using coupling ratio:

st/ru = (223)(259)/(1064)(218) = 57757/231952
       = 0.2490

We can see from the table that the associated value is 0.318. The associated s.e.() is determined using:
