Homework Assignment #3 Questions

  1. a) The probability of a purple flowered soybean plant is 3/4 and of a white flowered plant is 1/4. Find the probability of different combinations of 10 plants in an F2 family of size ten.

    b) What is the probability of at least one purple plant in a family of size eight?

  2. Two genes are believed to interact epistatically with duplicate gene action for purple color in maize. Use a X2 test to test for a 1:1 ratio at each locus separately and for a 15:1 ratio for the combined effects of both loci. The following testcross was made:
  3. Aabb x aabb to produce progeny.

    class Aabb aabb Total
    observed 27 22 49

    The testcross aaBb x aabb was made to produce the following progeny:

    class aaBb aabb Total
    observed 120 137 257

    The third cross was made to evaluate the expected 15:1 ratio. The AaBb x AaBb cross produced the following progeny:

    class Purple White Total
    observed 275 25 300
