CHANGING YOUR E-MAIL PASSWORD

If you need to change your e-mail password, here are instructions for doing int. Please read all the instructions before proceeding. If you want help, call the Computer Services help line at 231-9666.

Some cautions: You need to know your existing password before you can change it. Once you change your password, Computer Services will lose the ability to find the new password if you forget it. YOU have to remember the new password. In an emergency Computer Services can assign you a new password but cannot retrieve your old one.

If you connect through the telephone, you will need to change your password in three different places. The first is on ExtNet, the second in the software that dials the phone, and the third in the Pegasus e-mail program. If you are connected to a local area network, ignore the instructions for the dialing program. You should be using one of two dialing programs, either Trumpet Winsock or the Microsoft dialer, sometimes called DUN.

Following are steps to change your password in ExtNet, both dialing systems, and Pegasus for Windows. If you are using a DOS version of Pegasus contact the help desk.

ExtNet (DO THIS ONE FIRST)
Step 1: Connect to ExtNet using either Trumpet or DUN.
Step 2: Run Ewan and login as you normally do.
Step 3: Type 'passwd'.
Step 4: Enter your old password.
Step 5: Enter your new password.
Step 6: Verify your new password (a new password is prompted for twice to avoid typing mistakes).

Your new password must have more than six characters and must contain characters from two of the four classes: lower case letters, upper case letters, digits, and non-alphanumeric characters. Some passwords similar to the user's name are not allowed.

Step 2: Pull down the dialer menu and choose setup.cmd.
Step 3: Type in your user name (all lower case).
Step 4: Type in your password.
Step 5: Close Trumpet via File menu and choose exit.
Step 6: Restart Trumpet and all changes should have taken effect.

Microsoft Dialup
Step 1: Open the dialup icon as usual.
Step 2: Enter your new password into the password box.
Step 3: Check the save password box, if no already checked.
Step 4: Click connect and the password will be saved.

Pegasus for Windows
Step 1: Open Pegasus as normal.
Step 2: Pull down the File menu and choose Network configuration.
Step 3: The password box should be visible; erase what is there and type your new password.
Step 4: Click OK and your new password should be saved.
These steps will work for all versions of Pegasus.
