The
winter of 2006 - 2007 was mild with little snow cover for most of the
winter. February and March saw several
significant snow falls. Spring tillage
and planting times were about average. The last frost in the spring was on April 17, about 12 days
earlier than average. Summer
temperatures were warmer throughout most of the growing season. The maximum temperature equaled or exceeded
90EF
(32EC)
twenty-two times; once in May, four times in June, five times in July, twice in
August and three times in September.
The highest temperature was 98EF (36.7EC) on July 7.
Precipitation was above average in May, June and August; below average
in July and October; and about average in April and September. Total annual precipitation was almost six
inches above the long-term average. The
average daily temperatures were average in September; above average in May,
June, July, August and October and
below average in April. The
first frost was on October 22 and first hard frost was on October 24. The first frost was more than three weeks
later than the long term average and the first hard frost was 20 days later
than the long-term average (25-year).
All crops matured before frost.
Growing degree units in 2007 were above average.
