Scholarships
 
  The NRM Program offers six scholarships to eligible NRM students each year.  Scholarship applications will be accepted until April 1, 2008. Recipients are announced during April.  Awards are made the following Fall Semester.
   
  The six scholarships are:
 
  1. Brett Hovde Memorial Scholarship
  2. Johnson Neppl Memorial Scholarship
  3. NRM Club
  4. Pheasants Forever
  5. Scheels All Sports
  6. Whitetails Unlimited
 

NRM students are also eligible to apply for scholarships awarded by the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources.

   
   
   
Brett Hovde Memorial Scholarship
 

Background:

  A NRM endowment supports one scholarship for NRM students at NDSU. Brett Hovde (BS ’92, MS ’94) died October 26, 2001, at the age of 31. Brett enjoyed North Dakota’s outdoors, especially from a snowmobile, speed boat, or motorcycle. He wrote his masters thesis at NDSU under the supervision of Dr. Jay A. Leitch on the value of prairie wetlands.
     
  Eligibility Requirements :
 
NRM major pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD, with an emphasis in Social Sciences or Natural Resources Economics.
 
Minimum number of NDSU semester units (credits) completed at the end of Fall 2007:
 
  • 24 units for undergraduate students
 
  • 15 units for graduate students
 
Cumulative NDSU GPA of at least 3.25.
 
Member of the NRM Club (obtain current NRM Club president's signature on application form)
 
Full-time student in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR) currently and at time of disbursement of the award (Fall Semester 2008)
     
  Selection, Award and Recognition :
 
  • Complete the application form, staple attachments to the form. Make a copy for your records.
  • Deliver to Gretchen Bromley, NRM Student Services Office, Hultz Hall 160, no later than 5:00 on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
  • The NRM Scholarship Committee selects one recipient in April.
  • Scholarship recipient is notified in April. The actual award is dispersed the following fall.
  • Recipient is expected to attend the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Scholarship Recognition Luncheon in November (invitations are mailed). Pictures will be taken.

NOTE: Eligibility and awards are contingent on sustained enrollment in the College and the NRM program through the scholarship period.

   

 

Johnson Neppl Scholarship

   

  Background:
    The Johnson Neppl Memorial Scholarship fund is established in memory of Alfred and Dorothy Johnson and Shirley Johnson Neppl to provide $250 of scholarship assistance, based on financial need, to a deserving student pursuing an undergraduate degree in Natural Resources Management.
     
  Eligibility Requirements:
 

 
Junior or Senior (a minimum of 60 units completed at NDSU at the end of Fall 2007)
 
NRM major
 
Minimum cumulative NDSU GPA of 3.0
 
Full-time student in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR) currently and at time of disbursement of the award (Fall 2008)
     
  Selection, Award and Recognition:
 
  • Complete the application form. Staple attachments  (essay, documentation, etc.) to the form. Make a copy for your records.
  • Deliver to Gretchen Bromley, NRM Student Services Office, Hultz Hall 160, no later than 5:00 on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
  • The NRM Scholarship Committee selects one recipient in April.
  • Scholarship recipient is notified in April. The actual award is dispersed the following fall.
  • Recipient is expected to write a thank you letter to:  Gerald and Ruth Johnson, 609 North 12th Street, Breckenridge, MN  56520.  Be sure to send a copy of NRM.
  • Recipient is expected to attend the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Scholarship Recognition Luncheon in November (invitations are mailed). Pictures will be taken.

NRM Club Scholarship
   
  Background:
  The NDSU NRM Club supports one scholarship for an active Club member with the proceeds of their annual fund raiser.
 
  Eligibility Requirements :
 
NDSU student pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD
 
Full-time student in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR)  currently and at the time of disbursement of the award (Fall 2008)
 
Minimum of 12 semester units (credits) completed at NDSU (at the end of Fall 2007)
 
Member of the NRM Club (obtain current NRM Club president's signature on application form)
 
Active in NRM Club activities (e.g., meeting attendance, committees, fund raiser, Adopt-A-River, etc.).  Other considerations include length of membership, total units earned, career objective, GPA, hours worked per week, major, other extra-curricular/volunteer activities
     
  Selection, Award and Recognition:
   
  • Complete the application form. Staple attachments to the form. Make a copy for your records.
  • Deliver to Gretchen Bromley, NRM Student Services Office, Hultz Hall 160, no later than 5:00 on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
  • The NRM Club appoints a Scholarship Committee to select one recipient in April.
  • Scholarship recipient is notified in April. The actual award is dispersed the following fall.
  • Recipient is expected to write a thank you letter to the NDSU NRM Club and send a copy to NRM.
  • Recipient is expected to attend the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Scholarship Recognition Luncheon in November (invitations are mailed). Pictures will be taken.

Pheasants Forever
   
  Background:
  Pheasants Forever has established a fund to provide scholarship assistance to a derserving student who meets the criteria below.  Pheasants Forever is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and enchancement of pheasant and other wildlife populations in North America through habitat improvement, land management, public awareness and education.  This scholarship fund is established by the Dakota East Central Chapter of Pheasants Forever.  http://www.pheasantsforever.org/
 
  Eligibility Requirements :
 
Junior or Senior (a minimum of 60 completed units at the end of Fall 2007).
 
NRM Major with an emphasis in Social Sciences or Physical/Earth Resources Science.
 
Full-time student in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR) currently and at the time of disbursement of the award (Fall 2008).
     
  Selection, Award and Recognition:

Scheels All Sports
   
  Background:
  Scheels All Sports supports one $500 scholarship for a deserving student who meets the eligibility requirements below. Scheels All Sports is a 23-store, employee-owned, privately held business operating in seven states. The corporate office is in Fargo, ND. Scheels provides customers with “first-class customer service and the world’s largest selection of sports, sportswear and footwear.” http://www.scheelssports.com
 
  Eligibility Requirements :
 
NRM major pursuing a BS degree
 
Minimum of 17 semester units (credits) completed at NDSU (at the end of Fall 2007)
 
Minimum cumulative NDSU GPA of 3.0
 
Full-time student in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR) currently and at the time of disbursement of the award (Fall 2008).
 
Member of NRM Club (obtain current NRM Club president's signature on application form).
 
An active interest in either hunting or fishing.
     
  Selection, Award and Recognition:
   
  • Complete the application form. Staple attachments to the form. Make a copy for your records.
  • Deliver to Gretchen Bromley, NRM Student Services Office, Hultz Hall 160, no later than 5:00 on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
  • The NRM Scholarship Committee to selects one recipient in April.
  • Scholarship recipient is notified in April. The actual award is dispersed the following fall.
  • Recipient is expected to write a thank you letter to the Pheasants Forever and send a copy to NRM.
  • Recipient is expected to attend the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Scholarship Recognition Luncheon in November (invitations are mailed). Pictures will be taken.

Whitetails Unlimited Scholarship
     
  Background:
    Whitetails Unlimited, Inc. has established a fund to provide scholarship assistance to a deserving student who meets the eligibility requirements below. Whitetails Unlimited is a national, non-profit, conservation organization dedicating resources to the betterment of the white-tailed deer and its environment. This organization raises funds for educational programs, habitat conservation, and preservation of the hunting tradition. http://www.whitetailsunlimited.com
     
  Eligibility Requirements:
 

 
Junior or Senior (a minimum of 60 completed credits after Fall 2007)
 
NRM major with an emphasis in Biotic Resources Science
 
Resident of North Dakota or Minnesota
 
Minimum cumulative NDSU GPA of 2.5
 
Full-time student in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR) currently and at time of disbursement of the award (Fall Semester 2008)
     
  Selection, Award and Recognition:
 
  • Complete the application form. Staple attachments to the Form. Make a copy for your records.
  • Deliver to Gretchen Bromley, NRM Student Services Office, Hultz Hall 160, no later than 5:00 on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
  • The NRM Scholarship Committee selects one recipient in March.
  • Scholarship recipient is notified in April. The actual award is dispersed the following fall.
  • Recipient is expected to write a thank you letter to Whitetails Unlimited, Inc., and send a copy to NRM.
  • Recipient is expected to attend the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Scholarship Recognition Luncheon in November (invitations are mailed). Pictures will be taken.

  The Abrahamson Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of the Paul E. R. Abrahamson Memorial Scholarship that will provide financial support during the 2008-2009 academic year for a student enrolled in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources at North Dakota State University.
