Scholarships
 
  The NRM Program will be offering three scholarships to eligible NRM students this year.  Scholarship applications will be accepted through May 5, 2009.   Recipients will be notifed in May 2009.  Awards are disbursed the following Fall Semester.
   
  The three scholarships are:
 
  1. Brett Hovde Memorial Scholarship
  2. Johnson Neppl Memorial Scholarship
  3. NRM Club
 

NRM students are also eligible to apply for scholarships awarded by the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources.

Brett Hovde Memorial Scholarship - $500.00
 

Background:

  A NRM endowment supports one scholarship for NRM students at NDSU. Brett Hovde (BS ’92, MS ’94) died October 26, 2001, at the age of 31. Brett enjoyed North Dakota’s outdoors, especially from a snowmobile, speed boat, or motorcycle. He wrote his masters thesis at NDSU under the supervision of Dr. Jay A. Leitch on the value of prairie wetlands.
     
  Eligibility Requirements :
 
NRM major pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD, with an emphasis in Social Sciences or Natural Resources Economics.
 
Minimum number of NDSU semester units (credits) completed at the end of Fall 2008:
 
  • 24 units for undergraduate students
 
  • 15 units for graduate students
 
Cumulative NDSU GPA of at least 3.25.
 
Member of the NRM Club (obtain current NRM Club president's signature on application form)
 
Full-time student in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR) currently and at time of disbursement of the award (Fall Semester 2009)
     
  Selection, Award and Recognition :
 
  • Complete the application form, staple attachments to the form. Make a copy for your records.
  • Deliver to Gretchen Bromley, NRM Student Services Office, Hultz Hall 160, no later than 5:00 on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
  • The NRM Scholarship Committee selects one recipient in May.
  • Scholarship recipient is notified in May. The actual award is disbursed the following fall.
  • Recipient is expected to attend the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Scholarship Recognition Luncheon in November (invitations are mailed). Pictures will be taken.

NOTE: Eligibility and awards are contingent on sustained enrollment in the College and the NRM program through the scholarship period.

   

 

Johnson Neppl Memorial Scholarship - $250.00

   

  Background:
    The Johnson Neppl Memorial Scholarship fund is established in memory of Alfred and Dorothy Johnson and Shirley Johnson Neppl to provide $250 of scholarship assistance, based on financial need, to a deserving student pursuing an undergraduate degree in Natural Resources Management.
     
  Eligibility Requirements:
 

 
Junior or Senior (a minimum of 60 units completed at NDSU at the end of Fall 2008)
 
NRM major
 
Minimum cumulative NDSU GPA of 3.0
 
Full-time student in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR) currently and at time of disbursement of the award (Fall 2009)
     
  Selection, Award and Recognition:
 
  • Complete the application form. Staple attachments  (essay, documentation, etc.) to the form. Make a copy for your records.
  • Deliver to Gretchen Bromley, NRM Student Services Office, Hultz Hall 160, no later than 5:00 on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
  • The NRM Scholarship Committee selects one recipient in May.
  • Scholarship recipient is notified in April. The actual award is disbursed the following fall.
  • Recipient is expected to write a thank you letter to:  Gerald and Ruth Johnson, 609 North 12th Street, Breckenridge, MN  56520.  Be sure to send a copy to NRM.
  • Recipient is expected to attend the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Scholarship Recognition Luncheon in November (invitations are mailed). Pictures will be taken.

NOTE: Eligibility and awards are contingent on sustained enrollment in the College and the NRM program through the scholarship period.

   
     
 
NRM Club Scholarship - $300.00
   
  Background:
  The NDSU NRM Club supports one scholarship for an active Club member with the proceeds of their annual fund raiser.
 
  Eligibility Requirements :
 
NDSU student pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD
 
Full-time student in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR)  currently and at the time of disbursement of the award (Fall 2009)
 
Minimum of 12 semester units (credits) completed at NDSU (at the end of Fall 2008)
 
Member of the NRM Club (obtain current NRM Club president's signature on application form)
 
Active in NRM Club activities (e.g., meeting attendance, committees, fund raiser, Adopt-A-River, etc.).  Other considerations include length of membership, total units earned, career objective, GPA, hours worked per week, major, other extra-curricular/volunteer activities
     
  Selection, Award and Recognition:
   
  • Complete the application form. Staple attachments to the form. Make a copy for your records.
  • Deliver to Gretchen Bromley, NRM Student Services Office, Hultz Hall 160, no later than 5:00 on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
  • The NRM Club appoints a Scholarship Committee to select one recipient in April.
  • Scholarship recipient is notified in May. The actual award is disbursed the following fall.
  • Recipient is expected to write a thank you letter to the NDSU NRM Club and send a copy to NRM.
  • Recipient is expected to attend the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Scholarship Recognition Luncheon in November (invitations are mailed). Pictures will be taken.
