The Natural Resources Management Interdisciplinary Program (NRM) at North Dakota State University prepares students for careers that require an understanding of the social, biological and physical aspects of managing natural resources including air, water, soils, forests, land and wildlife. Because it emphasizes problem solving, the program prepares students to deal with problems and issues that reach beyond a single discipline or subject area.
NRM is a management-oriented program that integrates the social, physical and biological aspects of natural resources into one program of study. The program draws upon the courses and resources of four NDSU colleges: College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources; College of Science and Mathematics; College of Engineering and Architecture; and College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. An undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, a graduate program leading to a Master of Science (MS) degree and a doctoral degree program leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree are available.
Through NRM Program, students acquire a broad background in natural resources, as well as in-depth study in one or two specific areas. The program exposes students to many disciplines: exactly the interdisciplinary approach society must take if it is to find solutions to complex environmental problems.
Students attracted to NRM have career interests and goals oriented toward: the environment and natural resources, the natural and physical sciences, management and problem-solving skills.
