Trial Information: |
|
| A
trial was conducted on the Scott and Mike Rice farm 10 miles east of
Mohall to evaluate nitrogen deficient spring wheat response to liquid
nitrogen rate applications. The soil classification was a Towner loamy
fine sand. 'Gunner' spring wheat was planted May 10. A soil test
indicated 42 lbs of nitrogen was available in the top two feet of
soil. At planting, 75 lbs of actual nitrogen (anhydrous ammonia) was
applied. The day after planting through May 13, 12 inches of snow was
recorded that totaled 1.42 inches of precipitation. The following
month over 6 inches of precipitation was recorded. The week of June 10
-17 over 2.5 inches of precipitation was recorded. On June 21, the
field appeared yellow and it was determined that the field suffered
from nitrogen deficiency. A soil test on June 21 indicated that only 5
pounds of nitrogen was available in the top foot of soil. The trial
was established to evaluate liquid nitrogen applications (28-0-0) to
correct the nitrogen deficiency and was a randomized complete block
design with three replications. Plot size was 10 by 30 feet.
Treatments were applied June 24 at the 5 1/2 leaf stage (jointing)
using a CO2 pressurized sprayer equipped with streamjet nozzles. Plots
were harvested with a plot combine Sept 23. |
