The North Dakota State University Hettinger Research Extension Center will host its annual field tour on July 8. The tour is free and open to the public. The focus of the tours will be alternative crops and small grains.
The field day will start at 3:30 p.m. (MDT) with the alternative crops tour. The focus of this tour is niger seed, a new crop in North Dakota, along with a canola update, growing quality mustard, protecting chickpeas.
At 5 p.m. the small grains tour will be held. Topics for the later tour are hard red spring wheat, hard red winter wheat, oats, corn and GPS guiding systems. A free supper sponsored by the Hettinger Chamber of Commerce, N.D. Northern Canola Growers Association and REA Hybrids will be held at Mirror Lake.
NDSU Extension specialists, scientists and industry personnel will be speaking at the tours. The Hettinger Research Center is located on the west edge of Hettinger along highway 12.
