Plant Diagnostic Lab
Seed Health Testing
The NDSU Plant Diagnostic Lab performs a limited number of seed health tests. The NDSU Plant Diagnostic Lab is USDA-accredited
to perform screening of seed lots for
Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. sepedonicus (causal agent of potato bacterial ring rot)
for export. Other seed health or phytosanitary tests are also available at the NDSU Plant Diagnostic Lab. For additional services and fees, please click on the 'Services and Fees' link in the vertical
menu, at left.
If you have questions regarding how to send a sample for seed health testing, please contact the NDSU Plant Diagnostic Lab (click on 'About the Lab,' in the menu at left, for contact information).
Staff of the Seed Health Testing Lab:
The North Dakota State Seed Department (NDSSD) also performs seed quality testing (such as germ and purity) and seed health
testing. Although NDSSD is located on the NDSU campus, it is a division of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, rather than NDSU. For more information on NDSSD and the services it offers, click on the icon below.
Disclaimer: Seed health and phytosanitary testing by the NDSU Plant Diagnostic Lab is completely self-supportive. No funding is received from the State of North Dakota, North Dakota State University, or the NDSU Extension Service. The Lab is intended as a service to the seed industry in an effort to bring the latest in seed health testing technology to the grower.
Results obtained from this laboratory are typically based on grower-submitted samples, unless otherwise specified. As a result, we cannot be responsible for the accuracy or uniformity of samples. Those who submit samples should strive to provide representative samples. Since disease losses in the field are also determined by conducive environments and additional factors, a low disease rating or an organism that is not detected in a submitted sample is not a guarantee that losses will not occur.
