About the NDSU Plant Diagnostic Lab

For decades, the NDSU Plant Diagnostic Lab has helped individuals and professionals in agriculture and horticulture identify plant problems. Since 2002, it has been a member of the Great Plains Diagnostic Netowrk (a region of the National Plant Diagnostic Network, or NPDN). A goal of this network is to enhance our ability to detect and diagnose high-risk plant problems earlier. Every state with a land grant university has a related lab like this one, and all are members of the NPDN. For more information, click on 'GPDN' or 'NPDN' in the horizontal sub-menu bar, above.

Your local county extension office or state land grant university plant pest diagnostic lab can provide assistance in solving plant problems. Local experts within your own state or county may be better equipped to address particular questions you have, since different hosts around the country have different problems. A modest fee may be charged if you submit a sample for routine diagnosis to the NDSU Plant Diagnostic Lab, and a surcharge may be applied to out-of-state samples.

Samples for seed health testing or phytosanitary testing are also submitted to the lab. The fees for these types of services are typically higher to cover costs of labor and associated supplies, since seed health testing at the NDSU Plant Diagnostic Lab is completely self-supportive.
