Scholarship Program

The College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources at North Dakota State University provides one of the best college-based scholarship programs in the Upper Midwest.

Scholarships range from $100 to $2,000 per year. Some are renewable for up to four years, depending on the student's academic performance. The College selectively matches several of its scholarships for gifted incoming freshmen with scholarships administered by the Office of Admission.

Funds for scholarships are provided by individuals, companies, foundations and organizations who are aware of the commitment a student must make to complete a college education. They established these scholarships to encourage students who are willing to pursue academic excellence while enrolled in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources at NDSU. Scholarship recipients and donors are recognized at a luncheon held on campus each year.

The scholarships and awards listed in this brochure are divided into two categories:

College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources General Scholarships — awarded to students enrolled in the College, regardless of their major program of study.

Program Scholarships — awarded through departments in the College to students enrolled in specific academic programs.

Am I eligible?

You are eligible to be considered for a College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources scholarship if you are enrolled in or in the process of enrolling in an academic program within the College. (Note: Eligibility and awards are contingent on sustained enrollment through the scholarship period.) Most scholarships are awarded based on scholastic merit, not financial need. Some scholarships have specific eligibility qualifications. These qualifications are listed with the scholarships in this brochure.

How do I apply?

Application procedures for entering freshmen

To apply for a College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources General Scholarship - Complete the NDSU New Student Scholarship Application specifically listing your intended major within the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources. You will then be considered for all the College General Scholarships for which you are eligible. Application forms are available from the NDSU Office of Admission or online at www.ndsu.edu/admission/scholarship.shtm. Completed applications must be received by the NDSU Office of Admission by February 1.

Application procedures for transfer students

You will then be considered for all the College General Scholarships for which you are eligible. Transfer student scholarships are awarded to students both spring and fall semesters. The application deadline is December 1 for transfer students beginning spring semester and April 1 for students beginning fall semester.

To apply for a Program Scholarship - First, list your intended program (major) on the NDSU New Student Scholarship Application or the Transfer Student Scholarship Application. How are the recipients selected?

Scholarship recipients are selected based on criteria established by donors for each scholarship. Most incoming freshman scholarships are awarded competitively on the basis of scholastic achievement and ACT scores. Current and transfer students are awarded scholarships primarily on the basis of academic performance.

The College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Scholarship Committee selects recipients for the general scholarships. Recipients are notified in late April or early May. If a scholarship is declined, a new recipient is chosen from a list of alternates. Program scholarships are awarded through selection procedures established by the individual departments/academic programs.
