Row Crop Planter Clinic Scheduled for Jan. 29 at Carrington

The North Dakota State University Extension Service will conduct a row crop planter clinic on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center.

The objective of the program is to provide corn and soybean growers with a hands-on review on how to properly calibrate and operate planters to achieve optimum crop stands and yield, according to Greg Endres, CREC Extension area agronomist.

The training will include a combination of lectures and demonstrations using various planter components.

Kevin Kimberley, who has 30 years of experience in calibrating planters, is the clinic instructor. A farmer from Iowa, Kimberley will show producers how small adjustments to everything from planter wheels to corn meters can make a big difference to the bottom line. Kimberley has been an agricultural consultant to John Deere, Case IH and Syngenta.

In addition to planter calibration, other topics to be covered include:

* Planter operation

* Corn meters

* Vacuum units

*Anhydrous ammonia application equipment

* Managing heavy residue

* Soybean crop establishment

Registration starts at 9 a.m. The clinic will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. The participant fee is $20 if preregistered by Jan. 24 or $30 if registering on the day of the event.
