The Center for Agricultural Policy and Trade Studies, at North Dakota State University,
and the Farm Foundation announce an upcoming conference:
Agricultural Competitiveness and World Trade Liberalization:
Implications of the WTO and FTAA
which will be held in Fargo, North Dakota, on May 29-30, 2003. Major
themes of the conference include an assessment of U.S. agricultural competitiveness in
domestic and foreign markets and an analysis of emerging issues under a liberalizing trade
environment, including its impacts on U.S. agricultural trade. These themes will be
explored in sessions covering several relevant issues:
(1) progress of FTAA and WTO negotiations and potential impacts on U.S. agricultural
exports,
(2) country perspectives on trade liberalization and agricultural policy,
(3) issues related to exchange rates, state trading enterprises, and subsidies, and
(4) alternative means to enhance agricultural exports.
This conference is intended for a wide range of attendees, including industry leaders,
producers, policy makers, researchers, and the public.
