Economics
One
core area of economic research will be to develop a better
understanding of the way institutions and markets evolve to
shape the adoption patterns of agricultural biotechnology
products by producers and the consumption patterns of consumers.
The focus will be on the factors shaping the decisions and
interactions among producers; handlers, traders, processors,
marketers; and consumers.
In
an effort related to research conducted at the University
of Wisconsin, NDSU will examine survey data concerning the
acceptance of (GMO) small grains and specialty oil seeds as
genetically engineered varieties of the crops are introduced
in the future. NDSU researchers will provide information on
the effects of market segmentation on farmer decisions, as
well as on other farm-level determinants of adoption patterns.
All research will depend on farm-level survey data that will
reveal both ex ante and ex post GMO acceptance
patterns and determinants.
