Enclosed are yield data and agronomic descriptions for two new variety releases planned for 2001. These varieties were brought before the Variety Release Committee in 2000 but there was insufficient seed to release to the counties at that time. The new releases include:
While we do not yet know how many bushels we will have to allocate, the attached information can be used in your planning process. There is a good supply of the barley and a fair supply of the oat so there should be no problem distributing adequate quantities to any interested counties.
I do not know how many additional potential varieties will be brought before the Variety Release Committee in January 2001. However, I can fairly safely say that if there are additional releases for the coming season, there will be insufficient seed available to release to the counties in 2001 --with one possible exception. That one exception might be a later maturity soybean that will fit in only 2 or 3 southeastern counties. Any further notification will be sent out following the Variety Release Committee meeting.
Please call Paulette or me at your earliest convenience but NO LATER than Feb 1 to put your county on the Allocation Lists for these two new varieties. There are tentative plans to have an Allocation Committee meeting at the time of the NDCISA Annual Meeting (Feb 5-6). Before you call, it is important for some counties to take a hard look at how they request allocations so that late cancellations do not have to be made. If you have any questions, please call -- Feedback is always appreciated.
