PINNACLE Barley (Experimental Designation 2ND21863)
Price of Pinnacle Barley will be: $18.85/bu. bagged
General description of Pinnacle
'Pinnacle' - tested under the experimental number 2ND21863, Pinnacle is a 2-row barley with smooth awn, long rachilla hair, white aleurone and plump seed and appears to have some drought resistance. Pinnacle appears to provide a good yield advantage over Conlon at most testing locations and yields better than some 6 row varieties. A little taller than Conlon and some 6- row varieties but sill stands better than Conlon and approaches that of 6 row varieties. Disease resistance is better than Conlon and approaching that of 6 rows. The plump seed is not quite as good as Conlon but still very good. Foliar disease resistance is better than Conlon with spot blotch resistance being important. The Malt profile looks very good. Pinnacle is anticipated to start the 1st year of carlot testing during 2008 and 2nd year in 2009 with the earliest potential addition to the AMBA list being in 2010. Noteworthy it has about a full % lower protein compared to Conlon.
CAVALIER Conventional Soybean
(Experimental Designation ND02-2019)
Price of CAVALIER Soybean
will be: $25.80/bu. bagged
'Cavalier' (ND02-2019) - This line would be a potential good choice to replace the Jim variety. Compared to Jim, Cavalier has about a 1.4 bu. yield advantage and has the Rps 6 gene for Phytophthora root rot resistance (Jim is very susceptible to root rot). Cavalier has excellent resistance to lodging. Additional information available upon request.

Tradition and Legacy Barley
Tradition and Legacy barley varieties are distributed to the
County Seed Increase program each year as foundation class seed for the
production and distribution of registered class seed. This is an open program in which seed
producers must request foundation class seed through the County program or by
contacting a Research and
If you have any question on Legacy or Tradition Seed Increase Programs, please call Foundation Seedstocks.
RASMUSSON BARLEY
Date: February 14, 2008
TO: County Agents, County Crop Improvement Presidents, Area Agents,
REC’s, NDAA
FROM: Dale Williams, Foundation Seedstocks Director
SUBJECT: New Release
The University of Minnesota has released Rasmusson, a 6-rowed malting barley
tested under the experimental code of M109, which will be distributed this for
the first time during the spring of 2008. The ND Foundation Seedstocks Project
also increased foundation seed of Rasmusson and will make this seed available to
the County Seed Increase Program.
NOTE: The 2009 registered seed price will be established in ND by the Price Committee and this price will be mandatory for ND. The price for registered seed produced from foundation seed distributed in MN is at the producers discretion and could be higher or lower than the set ND price. In addition, registered seed produced in MN can move into ND. We have no control over this and any county that requests seed needs to be fully aware of this situation.
Supplies of foundation seed are limited and ND probably has
slightly more foundation seed than MN. If allocations are necessary we will use
the same guidelines that the allocation committee put in place for the Pinnacle
barley which has been allocated. If you have any questions please give us a
call.
Allocation Requests Due by Friday
Feb. 29th.
Please let Paulette, Jeremy or me know if your county would like an allocation. Contact us if you have any questions.
