Kulm Hard Red Spring Wheat was released by the North Dakota Agriculture Experiment Station in 1993. Kulm is similar to Butte 86 in heading date, plant height, disease reaction, and protein. It is higher yielding than Butte86 with better test weight and lodging score. Its bread baking qualities are good.
Kulm is named after a city in southeastern North Dakota. This part of the state has historically planted early maturing varieties. Kulm is a variety that should be accepted by producers who desire a high quality, good yield-high test weight wheat with the earliness to escape heat stress.
Application will be made for Plant Variety Protection (PVP) and can be sold only as a class of certified seed
