11/10/05 President Bush signed the FY2006 Ag Appropriations Bill which delays funding for COOL until Sep. 2008.
05/04/05 Representative Goodlatte (VA), Chair of House Ag Committee, introduced H.R.2068 to establish voluntary COOL to replace mandatory COOL.
04/21/05 Representative Rehberg (MT) introduced H.R.1802 which would remove cattle from the "J-list" which allows imported commodities to not be labeled with importing country.
04/04/05 Mandatory COOL for fish began today (www.ams.usda.gov/news/074-05.htm).
01/26/05 Representative Herseth (SD) introduced H.R.384 which is similar to Johnson's S.108
01/24/05 Senator Johnson (SD) introduced S.108 to not allow cattle and sheep from minimal-risk region (Canada) until COOL is effective.
01/24/05 Senator Burns (MT) introduced S.135 to add ground cuts to COOL and make COOL effective 09/30/05
11/19/04 Efforts to amend the FY2005 Omnibus Appropriations Bill to replace mandatory COOL with voluntary COOL failed in Congress.
9/30/04 Mandatory COOL for fish took effect, but enforcement was delayed until April 4, 2005.
01/23/04 President Bush signed PL 108-99 which delays COOL, except for fish, until September 2006.
12/17/03 USDA accepted comments until February 27, 2004 (extended from the previous December 29 deadline) on proposed mandatory COOL rules. Go to www.ams.usda.gov/COOL for the 203 page proposed rules.
