We received 692 useable responses, or a return rate of 17% (Table 1), a rate similar to past surveys. The surveys returned in 1996 represented 225,108 acres (A), or 32% of the Northarvest total of 710,000 A planted in 1996, a higher acreage percentage than in previous surveys.

Responses by district are shown in Table 2. MN1, which comprises primarily the Red River Valley, represents 47% of Minnesota respondents' acres. Compared to 1995, more acres were represented in responses from MN2, MN5, ND2, ND3 and ND5. This is the second successive year that acres represented in the responses increased in MN5, ND3 and ND5.
