Q: I understand there's a new protection program for dairy farmers. Can you tell me more about it?

A: Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman announced a new price insurance program for dairy farmers recently. This pilot program is to provide minimum pricing guarantees for dairy farmers through a cost-sharing agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Dairy Options Pilot Program, scheduled to begin this spring, is limited to six counties in six states. In order to participate in this pilot program, dairy producers must attend one of the free training sessions that USDA will host around the country.
