Symptoms

Reddish-brown spots with powdery masses of uredospores appear on leaves, stems and heads of barley. Black streaks containing teliospores appear on maturing barley.

Caused by Puccinia graminis


Control measures are:

  • Resistant varieties
  • Control of host weeds
  • Use of fungicides (may not be economic)
