Fusarium Head Blight

Symptoms

Brownish water soaked lesions appear on the developing kernels. Discoloration spreads, becomes darker and more pronounced. In severe infections masses of salmon-orange spores appear on the base of the kernels.

Caused by several Fusarium spp

Control measures are:

  • Reducing continuous planting of host crops
  • Early or late planting
  • Use of fungicides
  • Reducing infected stubble
  • Planting more resistant varieties when they become available
