System Information

System Information

This is a program unique to Windows 98, but is one of its best new features. Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information. The screens that follow contain detailed information on your computer and what's running on it. The listings can be a little intimidating, but these are information screens only. You can't change anything here, but the information can be invaluable to your service technician.

In addition, if you click on the Tools pulldown menu, you have access to the System Configuration Utility. In this screen, you have the ability to view and edit the files that control how Windows looks and works on your computer. Files available include config.sys, autoexec.bat, system.ini, win.ini, the startup group, and a general information page. This allows us to really customize the way Windows is loaded by picking and choosing the components we want to run.
