Software Support Policy
Supported Software
Site Licensed Software
Site licensed means the software purchased through NDSU-ITS.
This includes packages such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat,
SPSS, etc..
Computer services support is limited to the installation of
site licensed software, it does not include support content.
In short, if a site license program will not load or generates
an error, we will re-install it and/or patch it. If you have
questions on how to use a program or perform a specific function,
we are unable to assist.
Unsupported Software
Specialty Software
Specialty software used by various departments & county
offices at NDSU are not supported by ACCS or NDSU computer
support. They do, however, have minimal support through various
appointed support contacts. These particular contacts are not
associated with Computer Services.

Non-site
licensed software is defined as any software that is not
sold through
NDSU/NDUS software l icensing. This includes
free & shareware software downloaded from the internet
as well as software purchased in stores.
Discouraged Software
There is certain software that is strongly discouraged by computer
services. Often times the reason for this is either the software
presents a performance or security risk to the computer. Other
times it is due to legal or administrative reasons.
Examples of software that fall into this category include:
- Weather programs - Weatherbug, WinWeather, WeatherPulse, etc..
- Non-Microsoft Screensavers
- Software known to install spyware or adware - Gator, comet cursor, bonzai buddy,
bargain buddy, etc..
- Information Risk software - marketscore
- Peer to Peer Software - Kaazaa, LimeWire, Gnutella, BearShare, WinMX, E-Donkey,
etc..
Of these listed, peer to peer software will be removed immediately
on discovery due to it's high use of bandwidth and common use
in the illegal distribution of music and other copyrighted files.
